28th International Optimist Meeting – Lake Garda

The Class is again presenting the 420 to the masses of Optimist sailors and their families that are in Riva del Garda for this year’s Optimist spring meeting. And there are 989 entered this year! Tom Mapplebeck of CurraDinghy Sailing is meeting up with sailors and parents, Nautivela have supplied a boat for demonstration, the Class’ marketing literature is available and Fraglia Vela Riva are hosting.

In the middle of Friday, Tom sent us this report: “Ciao from what is today a blissful sunny day in Garda, after the non-stop rain of yesterday; the sun is being appreciated by all, apart from the 989 optimists who are currently sat on the water since 11am waiting for the (Ora) wind to come in from the south.

 “So far we have had great interest in the 420, kindly donated by Nautivela. The boat has prime position next to the snack hut where the sailors come in after racing!  We have met sailors and parents from Finland, Sweden, Ireland, Poland, Denmark and even Thailand. With the parents starting to emerge from their afternoon siestas, I better get back to work before (Class President) Nino catches me on the computer. Happy Sailing!”
